Is the Kanni Puppy right for Mylapore?

Mylapore is coastal tropical — the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention — and the Kanni Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, shy, alert breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Health and vet care in Mylapore

Preventive care in Mylapore is largely a matter of anticipating the long monsoon. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a loyal, shy, alert dog the fit is usually good either way.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Mylapore

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. The air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Kanni Puppy than intensity ever will. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Summer here peaks in May at about 36°C. That is manageable for a Kanni, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 21°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from October to November, and November is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, March, June and July: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
