Is the Kanni Puppy right for Chegunta?

Chegunta is mild tropical plateau — the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds — and the Kanni Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, shy, alert breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Homes around Chegunta usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Chegunta is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 13°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from July to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, June, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
