Living with a Kanni Puppy in Kohir

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In mild tropical plateau conditions water matters as much as food — comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Kohir?

The Kanni Puppy does well in Kohir, with one caveat worth knowing up front: comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward. For a loyal, shy, alert, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a loyal, shy, alert dog the fit is usually good either way.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Kohir is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 13°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from July to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, June, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
