Provide shade and water during the short hot spell before the monsoon.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In mild tropical plateau conditions water matters as much as food — the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Kothagudem is hottest in April, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 16°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
