Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In moderate Deccan conditions water matters as much as food — the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Health and vet care in Rayaparthy

Preventive care in Rayaparthy is largely a matter of anticipating the brief pre-monsoon heat. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Keep vaccinations, deworming and annual vet checks on schedule year-round.

In Rayaparthy, the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Rayaparthy is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 14°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
