Living with a Kanni Puppy in Yedapally

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners across South India tend to find this dog a loyal, shy, alert companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward, keep water available and watch intake through the brief pre-monsoon heat.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Is the Kanni Puppy right for Yedapally?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Kanni Puppy adapts well to Yedapally on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

Yedapally is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Kanni needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 14°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from July to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
