Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Dharmanagar

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. Near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Pointer Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Pointer Puppy

Homes around Dharmanagar usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Is the Pointer Puppy right for Dharmanagar?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Pointer Puppy adapts well to Dharmanagar on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in the North-East tend to find this dog a loyal, loving, confident companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Summer here peaks in April at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Pointer, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A Pointer has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
