Grooming and coat care in Devprayag

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Devprayag being temperate highland, crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Is the Rajapalayam Puppy right for Devprayag?

Devprayag is temperate highland — crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter — and the Rajapalayam Puppy is a large-sized, loyal, protective, alert breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Devprayag

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Devprayag, crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, keep water available and watch intake through the cold winter season.

Summer here peaks in May at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Rajapalayam, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winter nights fall to about 4°C in January. A Rajapalayam feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Rajapalayam puppy, the easiest months to arrive are April, May and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
