Grooming and coat care in Dwarahat

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Dwarahat being cool hill, the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In cool hill conditions water matters as much as food — the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Homes around Dwarahat usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Health and vet care in Dwarahat

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the cold winter season rather than during it. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

The city sits at about 1,494 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 30°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Kanni that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 3°C in January. A Kanni feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are April, May and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
