Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Hardwar

The cold winter season is the stretch that needs planning. Crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Greyhound Puppy than intensity ever will. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

Living with a Greyhound Puppy in Hardwar

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Greyhound Puppy. Owners in the northern region tend to find this dog a gentle, quiet, fast companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Health and vet care in Hardwar

Preventive care in Hardwar is largely a matter of anticipating the cold winter season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

Is the Greyhound Puppy right for Hardwar?

Hardwar is cool hill — crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter — and the Greyhound Puppy is a large-sized, gentle, quiet, fast breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

Hardwar is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 9°C.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
