The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In temperate highland conditions water matters as much as food — the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Rishikesh

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Rishikesh, the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Grooming and coat care in Rishikesh

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Rishikesh being temperate highland, the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

Space and the outdoors with a Greyhound Puppy

Homes around Rishikesh usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Rishikesh is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A Greyhound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Greyhound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
