Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In cool hill conditions water matters as much as food — winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Kalsi

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Kalsi, winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Living with a Pointer Puppy in Kalsi

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Pointer Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners throughout the northern belt tend to find this dog a loyal, loving, confident companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Pointer Puppy

Homes around Kalsi usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Summer here peaks in May at about 37°C. That is manageable for a Pointer, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C. A Pointer has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Pointer puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, April, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
