The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Space and the outdoors with a Red Collared Lorikeet

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a family friendly, good with kids bird the fit is usually good either way.

Feeding a small bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In humid coastal conditions water matters as much as food — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a small-sized breed to exercise at home. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Is the Red Collared Lorikeet right for Krishna?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and a small-sized bird feels that more than an owner expects. The Red Collared Lorikeet adapts well to Krishna on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.
