Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Red Collared Lorikeet. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Grooming and coat care in Puttaparthy

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, a Red Collared Lorikeet's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a small bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In humid coastal conditions water matters as much as food — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.
