Exercise and routine through the peak summer and winter swings in Obra

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Obra, the climate swings from hot summers to cool winters, so care changes with the season, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Shift walks to early morning and late evening through the peak summer weeks.

Grooming and coat care in Obra

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the climate swings from hot summers to cool winters, so care changes with the season, a Red Collared Lorikeet's coat and skin want checking more often through the peak summer and winter swings. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Provide shade and constant water in summer; a warm bed and blanket in winter.

Feeding a small bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In hot-summer / cool-winter conditions water matters as much as food — the climate swings from hot summers to cool winters, so care changes with the season, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Obra is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Red Collared Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 9°C. A light sweater helps a small Red Collared Lorikeet on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Red Collared Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are February, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
