Grooming and coat care in Punpun

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, a Red Collared Lorikeet's coat and skin want checking more often through the peak summer and winter swings. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Watch for seasonal coat shedding as temperatures change and brush accordingly.

Is the Red Collared Lorikeet right for Punpun?

Punpun is subtropical plains — extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year — and the Red Collared Lorikeet is a small-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Watch for seasonal coat shedding as temperatures change and brush accordingly.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a small bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In subtropical plains conditions water matters as much as food — extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Living with a Red Collared Lorikeet in Punpun

Punpun is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Red Collared Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C. A light sweater helps a small Red Collared Lorikeet on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Red Collared Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are March, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
