The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Grooming and coat care in Lathi

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Lathi being hot semi-desert, daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Lathi

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Lathi, daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Lathi is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Red Collared Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 12°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Red Collared Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
