Feeding a small bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In coastal tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Space and the outdoors with a Blue Sided

Homes around Devikulam usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Is the Blue Sided right for Devikulam?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and a small-sized bird feels that more than an owner expects. The Blue Sided adapts well to Devikulam on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

The city sits at about 1,594 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 26°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a Blue Sided that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A light sweater helps a small Blue Sided on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from May to November, and June is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Blue Sided bird, the easiest months to arrive are March to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
