Health and vet care in Devikulam

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Feeding a small bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

The city sits at about 1,594 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 26°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a Senegal Parrot that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A light sweater helps a small Senegal Parrot on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from May to November, and June is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Senegal Parrot bird, the easiest months to arrive are March to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
