Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Mannarkad

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Mannarkad, the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Is the Rainbow Lorikeet right for Mannarkad?

Mannarkad is warm and humid — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important — and the Rainbow Lorikeet is a small-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Feeding a small bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In warm and humid conditions water matters as much as food — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Mannarkad

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, a Rainbow Lorikeet's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Summer here peaks in March at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Rainbow Lorikeet: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 18°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from May to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Rainbow Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are December to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
