The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Grooming and coat care in Bhum

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Bhum being warm and humid, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Living with a Chattering Lorikeet in Bhum

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a small-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners across the western region tend to find this bird a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Bhum

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Bhum, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Feeding a small bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Bhum is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Chattering Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 13°C, so cold is not a concern.

Most of the year's rain falls in September. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Chattering Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, June, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
