Living with a Dusky Lorikeet in Junagarh

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Dusky Lorikeet. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Is the Dusky Lorikeet right for Junagarh?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and a small-sized bird feels that more than an owner expects. The Dusky Lorikeet adapts well to Junagarh on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Grooming and coat care in Junagarh

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, a Dusky Lorikeet's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Feeding a small bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Junagarh is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Dusky Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 13°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Dusky Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
