Living with a Blue & Gold Macaw in Behror

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Blue & Gold Macaw room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners throughout the northern belt tend to find this bird a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a large bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In hot, dry conditions water matters as much as food — summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Behror is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Blue & Gold Macaw needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A light sweater helps a large Blue & Gold Macaw on the coldest nights.

Most of the year's rain falls in August. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Blue & Gold Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive are March, September, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
