The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a small bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, keep water available and watch intake through the dry summer months.

Is the Hahn's Macaw right for Behror?

Behror is hot semi-desert — summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority — and the Hahn's Macaw is a small-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

Health and vet care in Behror

Preventive care in Behror is largely a matter of anticipating the dry summer months. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the bird; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Behror is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Hahn's Macaw needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A light sweater helps a small Hahn's Macaw on the coldest nights.

Most of the year's rain falls in August. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Hahn's Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive are March, September, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
