Space and the outdoors with a Nanday Conure

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a family friendly, good with kids bird the fit is usually good either way.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Is the Nanday Conure right for Pushkar?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, and a small-sized bird feels that more than an owner expects. The Nanday Conure adapts well to Pushkar on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Nanday Conure room to move and settle in comfortably. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Pushkar

The dry summer months is the stretch that needs planning. Daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Nanday Conure than intensity ever will. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Pushkar is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A Nanday Conure needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A light sweater helps a small Nanday Conure on the coldest nights.

There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in August.

For a new Nanday Conure bird, the easiest months to arrive are March, September, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
