Feeding a small bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, keep water available and watch intake through the dry summer months.

Is the Dusky Lorikeet right for Tibi?

Tibi is hot, dry — summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority — and the Dusky Lorikeet is a small-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Tibi

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Tibi being hot, dry, summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

Health and vet care in Tibi

Preventive care in Tibi is largely a matter of anticipating the dry summer months. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the bird; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Tibi is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to August. A Dusky Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A light sweater helps a small Dusky Lorikeet on the coldest nights.

There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in July.

For a new Dusky Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are March, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
