Health and vet care in Devprayag

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the cold winter season rather than during it. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

Feeding a medium bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a medium build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In cold mountain conditions water matters as much as food — winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Devprayag

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Devprayag, winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Summer here peaks in May at about 33°C. That is manageable for a African Grey Parrot: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winter nights fall to about 4°C in January. A African Grey Parrot feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new African Grey Parrot bird, the easiest months to arrive are April, May and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
