Space and the outdoors with a Red Lorikeet

Homes around Pauri usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Feeding a small bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In cold mountain conditions water matters as much as food — the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Grooming and coat care in Pauri

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Pauri being cold mountain, the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

Living with a Red Lorikeet in Pauri

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a small-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in the northern region tend to find this bird a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Pauri

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Pauri, the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

The city sits at about 1,532 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 31°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Red Lorikeet that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 3°C in January. A Red Lorikeet feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Red Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are April to May: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
