Is the Chattering Lorikeet right for Rishikesh?

Rishikesh is cool hill — crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter — and the Chattering Lorikeet is a small-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Rishikesh is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A Chattering Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C. A light sweater helps a small Chattering Lorikeet on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Chattering Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are March, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
