Living with a Chattering Lorikeet in Bongaon

Grooming and coat care in Bongaon

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, a Chattering Lorikeet's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Health and vet care in Bongaon

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Feeding a small bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In coastal tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Bongaon is hottest in April, averaging 39°C in the afternoon. A Chattering Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A light sweater helps a small Chattering Lorikeet on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Chattering Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are February and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
