Space and the outdoors with a Kanni Puppy

Homes around Chetheba usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Chetheba

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Chetheba, near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Health and vet care in Chetheba

Preventive care in Chetheba is largely a matter of anticipating the extended rainy season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

The city sits at about 1,381 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 27°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Kanni that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 5°C in January. A Kanni feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are April and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
