Kharar, Punjab, India: Nearby Pets India has launched 100% Cash on Delivery (COD) for pet purchases in select cities. Verified customers can now pay the full amount in cash at their doorstep, with nothing paid online. To keep it safe for buyers and for our animals, COD requires a quick, one-time identity check before the order is confirmed.
COD is available for delivery to Delhi NCR (Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad), Panipat, Sonipat, Ludhiana, Mohali (SAS Nagar), Chandigarh, Panchkula, Zirakpur, SBS Nagar, Rupnagar, Patiala, Bangalore, Bhopal and Mumbai, for orders valued between ₹5,000 and ₹65,000 (including shipping). More cities will be added over time, and the live checkout always shows whether COD is available for your city and order.
Why COD for pets needs verification
You can also book a pet with a 25% advance (and pay the remaining 75% at handover) or pay in full online. We are often asked why Cash on Delivery needs an identity check at all.
The honest answer is cost and care. By the time a puppy, kitten or bird reaches your door, we have already paid the breeder, booked transport and covered the care on the journey. When an order is refused at the doorstep for no good reason, the animal makes a second long trip back and the cost is lost. Verifying who the buyer is lets us safely take that risk and let you pay on delivery.
How verified Cash on Delivery works
When you choose Cash on Delivery at checkout, you complete these steps on a guided page. Our step-by-step guide walks through each one:
- Share your delivery location. With your permission, your location confirms the delivery is within a serviceable area.
- Verify your identity with DigiLocker. You sign in to the Government of India's DigiLocker with your Aadhaar number and OTP and approve sharing your Aadhaar. We receive only your name, a masked reference and the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar — never the full number.
- Face match. A live selfie is matched to your DigiLocker Aadhaar photo to confirm it is really you. No camera on your laptop? Finish the selfie on your phone via a QR code or emailed link.
- Aadhaar e-Sign. You review your order and e-Sign the Cash-on-Delivery agreement and policies using a legally valid Aadhaar e-Sign. You pay nothing online.
Your order is then placed as “Under Verification” while our team reviews it. Our staff reach out (call, WhatsApp, email or video) to finalise your pet selection, and at pickup they record a short video call — the same verified pet is the one delivered to you. On delivery, you check the pet and pay the full amount in cash.
Your commitment, and when you can refuse
A verified COD order is a binding commitment to accept and pay for the order in full. You may refuse delivery only if the pet delivered is sick or is the wrong pet — and the issue must be shown and recorded at your doorstep at the time of delivery. What happens to your data
- Consent first. Your Aadhaar is fetched from DigiLocker only after you explicitly approve it on DigiLocker's own screen.
- Data minimisation. We store only the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar (never the full number), your DigiLocker-confirmed name, the face-match result and your confirmed delivery location — kept in private, access-controlled storage.
- Deleted after 7 days. Your KYC data, recorded video consent and signed agreement are deleted 7 days after delivery, except where a dispute or legal requirement needs them kept longer.
- Compliance. Handling follows the Aadhaar Act and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. See our Privacy Policy.
What stays the same
The 25% advance option isn't going away. Customers who don't want to verify, or who are outside the COD cities or order-value range, can keep booking with a 25% advance or by paying in full online. Our 7-day health guarantee, health records at handover and delivery across India apply to every order, however you pay.
Frequently asked questions
Which cities have Cash on Delivery?
Delhi NCR, Panipat, Sonipat, Ludhiana, Mohali (SAS Nagar), Chandigarh, Panchkula, Zirakpur, SBS Nagar, Rupnagar, Patiala, Bangalore, Bhopal and Mumbai, with more to come. The delivery city decides eligibility — for example, a buyer in Delhi cannot place a COD order shipping to a non-serviceable city. The checkout shows COD only where it is available.
Is there an order-value limit?
Yes. COD is available for orders between ₹5,000 and ₹65,000, including shipping. Orders outside that range can use the 25% advance or full online payment.
Do I need a DigiLocker account to use COD?
You sign in to DigiLocker with your Aadhaar number and an OTP — no separate DigiLocker account is needed, and it is free for Indian residents. If you'd rather not, you can book any pet with the 25% advance.
Will Nearby Pets India keep a copy of my Aadhaar?
No. We never receive or store your full Aadhaar number — only the last four digits and your DigiLocker-confirmed name. Your KYC data, video consent and signed agreement are deleted 7 days after delivery.
Can I still pay 25% in advance instead?
Yes. The 25%-to-book, 75%-at-handover option stays available for every customer, in every city.
